Arno Boehler is faculty member of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Vienna (Habilitation 2004) and lecturer at the University of applied Arts Vienna in the program of Cross-Disciplinary-Strategies. In 1997, together with the actress Susanne Valerie Granzer, Boehler founded baseCollective, a cultural laboratory at the cutting edge of philosophy and the arts. baseCollective implements artistic practices into philosophy to give back to philosophy its materiality, corporeality and situated awareness. In the last 20 years Boehler and Granzer have developed formats like Philosophy on Stage, Arts-based-Philosophy and Philosophy as Artistic Research, that meanwhile became role models in the field of artistic research for yoking philosophy with the arts.
Since 2016 baseCollective runs an annual Residency Programme for Artistic-Research // Arts-based Philosophy in South India (Tamil Nadu), conceptualized and directed by Boehler & Granzer.

Long term Research Fellowships at the University of Bangalore, the University of Heidelberg, New York University and University of Princeton. Visiting professorships at the University for Music and performing Arts Vienna, University of Vienna, University of the Arts Bremen and University for applied Arts Vienna.

Research Projects: Boehler has been leading several research projects funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF): PEEK-Project Artist Philosophers. Philosophy AS arts-based Research / AR275-G21 (2014-2018) at the University for applied Arts Vienna, Generating Bodies – Corporal Performance / TRP12-G21 (2010-2014) and Materiality and Temporality of performative Speech-Acts / P17600-G21 (2005-2007) at the University of Vienna, Faculty for Philosophy and Education. Since 2018 Böhler is a Council Member of GlobArt, Connecting Worlds of Arts and Sciences.
