Know-How Workshop at the University of Vienna, 30th Nov - 1st Dec 2023

On 30th November and 1st December 2023, the University of Vienna will be hosting the ‘Extending Know-How’ workshop as part of the new Knowledge in Crisis Cluster of Excellence, co-funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) [COE 3]. The aim of the workshop is to discuss new questions and research concerning the notion of knowing-how and its applications. Everyone is welcome.

30th November

  • 10.00 – 10.15:    Introductions 
  • 10.15 – 11.30:    Katalin Farkas (CEU): ‘Is know-how knowledge?’  
  • 11.45 – 13.00:    Will Small (U. Illinois, Chicago): ‘On the idea that know-how is practical knowledge’  

 

1st December

  • 14.30 – 15.45:    Stefan Brandt (FAU, Erlangen-Nürnberg): ‘Ryle vs. Intellectualism: A case study in philosophical method’
  • 16.00 – 17.15:    Matt Dougherty (UniVie): ‘Know-how and (the) categories’
