philsci seminar - Jannie Hofmeyr - Mon, Jun 12, 10:00AM, Room 3A

Mon, Jun 12

Jan-Hendrik (Jannie) Hofmeyr will be giving a seminar in Room 3A this Monday, Jun 12, at 10:00am, entitled

"Causal entailments in the cell: a neo-Aristotelian analysis."

Jannie is a distinguished biochemist who is professor emeritus at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He is mainly famous for his supply-and-demand model of metabolic regulation, one of the very rare occasions where a theory from economics has been successfully adapted for natural science purposes. On the side, he's always been one of the best and most original Robert-Rosen scholars on the planet. In recent years, he has been modifying Rosen's formalism and model of the cell to fit actual cellular processes while maintaining its self-manufacturing properties.

Jannie will be in Vienna the whole next week. Let johannes_jaeger@univie.ac.at know if you'd like to talk to him.
